Imagine a shape that represents the word desire, and chances are it will be round. Round shapes evoke comfort, inspire trust, and symbolize warmth and connection. We are also often drawn to touch rounded forms.
Desire Perceptible is a stunning collection of rounded shapes that draws viewers in like a giant magnet. We see a couple and a child—the couple is tangible, while the child appears as a spirit between them.
The sculpture represents the artist’s longing for a child. A longing that, over the years, became all-consuming.
The child was there, it existed; he saw it, heard it, felt it… in his mind, in his dreams.
But his wife wanted something else. His longing grew, and her resistance slowly eroded.
Eventually, they made the decision together, and a little boy was born.
The child was there, it existed; they saw it, heard it, felt it… in real life.
Desire Perceptible began three years ago as a sketch. It was a remarkable feat to capture such a vast array of emotions in a steel sculpture.
With this sculpture, William closes a chapter in his life.
